Will Wright is al een poosje weg bij EA maar we moeten niet vergeten wie De Sims – en nog veel meer games – heeft bedacht.
Ik moet bekennen dat we als S3N te weinig aandacht besteden aan De Sims 3 op consoles die deze herfst te koop zal zijn. Eigenlijk heeft niemand binnen het team wat met consoles en handhelds maar toch proberen we jullie geregeld op de hoogte te houden van het laatste nieuws.
Zoals vandaag een special op de Engelstalige IGN met nieuwe screens.
IGN: What features have you had to cut out for the console versions?
Sam Player: With a life simulation game like The Sims 3, the player experience is created by mixing several complex gameplay systems and having them work together. If we tried to remove any of these systems – examples are the Traits system to define The Sims’ personalities, the Opportunities system to generate player quests or the Wish system to drive The Sims motivations – we wouldn’t be creating an experience that was true to The Sims 3. So features are adapted and enhanced for each individual console. For example, on the PS3 and Xbox360, we changed the world map to a more easily navigated 2D map view for ease of player control. On the Wii, we chained multiple Opportunities together to give the player longer “quest-like” paths to follow. On the DS, we took advantage of the stylus control to give the player the ability to “paint on their Sim” to sculpt and customize it the way they want.
Vandaag vinden in Amsterdam en Moskou presentaties plaats van De Sims 3 Ambities en afgelopen weekend was dat nog in Milaan waar onder onder andere de italiaanse fansite Sims 3 Cri aanwezig was.
Het eerste deel van hun verslag hadden we al gemeld en het tweede deel (in het Engels) is nu ook online gezet.
Updates to the user interface
The graphic interface of the game has been slightly modified to make it easier to use through a tabs division. What does it mean?
First of all, the notification window that appears on the right of the screen every time a Sim earns a new skill point, gets a promotion, etc.. has been organized into tabs divided by topics, which collect all the messages you receive and you can browse them with a next/prev button. Also, you can minimize the window and reopen it whenever you want.
As for the opportunities, anytime you get one you’re also notified what you need to do in order to complete it, which things you’ll necessitate, the point you’ve reached and so on (a bit like the diary of World Adventures).
Even these updates will be available for everyone, as they will be included in the next game patch that also features tattoos and the new Edit Town options.

Het eerste deel van het verslag op Edenstyle hadden we ook al gemeld en hun tweede deel, ook in het Engels, staat nu ook online.
The time machine
Inventors can create a time machine, that will let them to travel in the future or in the past.
When a Sim use it, you cannot follow him, but some messages tell you what he is doing. Once back, he can get something special, like medieval or primitive clothes & hairstyle. You can whoohoo in it and also have a child… but he/she can be older than you or a teenager or adult already.

Naast de Italiaanse fansite Sims Cri heeft nu ook de fansite Edenstyle een artikel online gezet over de presentatie van De Sims 3 Ambities vorig weekend in Milaan.
Traits
The new traits are the followings: born salesman, dramatic, eccentric, eco-friendly, perceptive and savvy sculptor.
Born salesmen can sell their items for a better price.
Dramatic Sims react in a exaggerate way to everyday events.
Eccentrics are good inventors.
Perceptive Sims are perfect for Investigator career.
Savvy sculptors have a natural talent for sculpting skill.
Eco-friendly Sims care about the environment and don’t want to waste water. They prefer to use the bicycle and they dry the clothes with the clothesline and not the electric dryer.
I really appreciate this attention for ecology, it’s a great idea in order to make players more sensible to this issue.
